Yes. Walmart takes most returns without a receipt as long as you can show a government-issued photo ID and the item is still inside its return window. What changes is the refund: without a receipt, an approved return comes back on a Walmart gift card.

First, try to find the receipt

A receipt (or a lookup that finds the purchase) gets you your money back the way you paid, at the price you paid. Two places to check:

Walmart’s receipt lookup. If you paid by debit or credit card in a store, go to walmart.com/receipt-lookup. Enter the store’s ZIP code or city, the purchase date, the card type and last four digits, and the total. You can download the receipt and bring it with you. Your card statement has the date and total.

Purchase History. Online orders, and store purchases linked to your account, are under Account → Purchase History in the app or on walmart.com.

If there’s no receipt at all

Take the item to the customer service desk inside its return window (90 days for most items, 30 for most electronics, 14 for phones).
Show a valid government-issued photo ID. Walmart stores the ID details in a database it uses to authorize returns.
Walmart’s refund verification system checks the return.
If it’s accepted, you get the refund on a Walmart gift card.

Why a no-receipt return gets refused

The ID check said no. Walmart limits how often and how much you can return without a receipt. The system looks at your recent no-receipt returns.

It’s past the window. No-receipt returns follow the same limits as receipted ones.
It was sold by a Marketplace seller. Those returns go through the order on Walmart.com, so you’ll need the order.

You almost never need a paper receipt for an online order. The order is in Purchase History, and you can start the return there or bring the item to a store. If you checked out as a guest, search your email for the order confirmation to get the order number.

Gifts

A gift receipt lets the desk find the original purchase, which makes the return much easier. Without one, it’s a standard no-receipt return: photo ID, and a Walmart gift card if approved. If someone ordered it online for you, the order number from the packing slip is the next best thing.
