Lowe's Return Policy: 90 Days, the 30-Day and 48-Hour Exceptions, and Refunds

Lowe’s gives you 90 days to return most things, but the categories people spend the most on (appliances, TVs, paint, and power equipment) have much shorter windows.

How to return an item to Lowe’s

In store

1. Take the item to the customer service desk at any Lowe’s store in the US.
2. Bring your receipt, order number, or the card or digital wallet you paid with. Lowe’s can also find purchases by phone number or MyLowe’s Rewards account.
3. If you don’t have a receipt, bring a government-issued photo ID.
4. The refund goes to your original payment method; MyLowe’s Money purchases are refunded to your digital wallet.

By mail (online orders)

1. Sign in on lowes.com and start a return from the order.
2. Lowe’s provides a FedEx label for eligible items; drop the package at any FedEx location.
3. Keep the FedEx receipt and tracking number until the refund arrives.

If your item isn’t eligible for a FedEx return, contact Lowe’s to arrange it.

How long a Lowe’s refund takes

After the return is complete, allow up to 7 business days for the credit to reach your account; many banks post it sooner. For mail returns, the clock starts when Lowe’s receives and processes the item. Still waiting? See refund taking too long?

Returning without a receipt

Lowe’s officially requires proof of purchase, but it accepts a wide range of proof and will search for it: your card or digital wallet, phone number, order number, or MyLowe’s Rewards account. For a refund without a receipt, you’ll need a driver’s license, state ID card, military ID, alien registration card, or border crossing card. Details in our Lowe’s no-receipt return guide.

Tips before you return

• Appliances: inspect at delivery and contact Lowe’s right away about damage. The 48-hour window is short.
• Paint: liquid paint has 30 days, not 90.
• Join MyLowe’s Rewards (free): your in-store purchases are saved to your account, so you never need the paper receipt.
• After the window, a defect is the manufacturer’s problem, not Lowe’s. Have the receipt date and serial number ready (what a warranty claim needs).
